GENERAL OBJECTIVE
RUNFASTER4EU aims to prove that a sustainable and scalable bio-based value chain is possible at industrial level (TRL8). The project will focus on the large-scale cultivation of low-ILUC-risk oil crops on marginal lands that are not used for food or feed production. These crops will be used in a cascading process to extract vegetable oils and make use of the remaining biomass, turning them into a variety of high-value, market-ready bio-based products. In doing so, RUNFASTER4EU will make a strong contribution to the European bioeconomy and support the EU’s 2050 net-zero and bioeconomy targets.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
To demonstrate large scale cultivation of low-ILUC-risk dry oleaginous crops in several climate areas ensuring a full biomass valorization.
To demonstrate the implementation of innovative processes in first-of-a-kind biorefineries at large scale.
Successful industrial production of SSbD biobased chemicals and materials improvement.
To develop bio-based, high performing, high-value marketable products meeting final application requirements .
To ensure by quantifying that bio-based RUNFASTER4EU materials and chemicals are SSbD.
To demonstrate the business exploitation of the innovative RUNFASTER4EU practices, processes and products and foster the replicability of its flagship value-chains through a multi-actor approach.
