ABOUT
Matrìca was established in 2011 to reconvert a preexisting petrochemical site in Sardinia into a biorefinery integrated in the local area for the production biochemicals, building blocks bioplastics, biolubricants, home&personal care products, agrochemicals, biofuels and additives for the rubber and plastic industry. Thanks to a process that does not use ozone, this facility produces azelaic acid and pelargonic acid from vegetable oils. Its main products include pelargonic acid, azelaic acid, and esters.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Within the RUNFASTER4EU, Matrica is responsible for the conversion of vegetable oils into biobased building blocks, intermediates like azelaic acid and pelargonic acid, and innovative polymers. The upgrade of the Porto Torres plant plays a key role in these processes to ensure zero-waste, zero-pollution operations.
