Versalis is Eni’s chemical company and operates globally offering a wide range of products and solutions for various market sectors. It is committed to a transformation process towards a chemical industry of the future based on portfolio specialization, circularity and biochemistry, contributing to carbon neutrality.

Research plays a fundamental role in this transformation. With 7 research centres, the company is dedicated to developing innovative solutions, including through integration of technology platforms and partnerships with various players in the supply chain. In this direction Versalis, with the acquisition of Novamont, consolidated its position in the biochemical sector, and with that of Finproject and Tecnofilm, is creating new opportunities to increase its presence in downstream specialised markets. In terms of circularity, the company continues to develop complementary mechanical and chemical recycling technologies, such as Hoop® for the chemical recycling of mixed plastics.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT

Versalis, based on its previous experience in EU-funded projects and as the project coordinator, will strategically support the advancement of results and facilitate project implementation. Versalis plays also an instrumental role in the upgrade of biorefineries and bioprocesses and in demonstrating the production of biobased biochemicals and intermediates at high TRL. Central to these bioconversion processes is the Versalis Crescentino plant, which specializes in converting defatted meals into high-quality chemicals, thereby advancing the technological and industrial capabilities of RUNFASTER4EU. Versalis will support the environmental/circularity assessment and define the exploitation strategy of its results towards the realization of the project’s business plan targets.
